Plan some shade for your koi

When selecting a spot for your pond, make sure it is out of direct sun. Also keeping water plants like water lilies in your pond can be very beneficial- not only they add beauty to the overall look of your pond, but they also provide shade for the fish. However, you should avoid building your koi pond in aria with many trees. Cleaning a fish pond of fallen leaves is no fun.

Keep the birds away

There are many birds of prey that would love to stealyour koi. Don’t give them the opportunity; plan your pond location so it is possible to protect it with a net.

Insectocides can kill your beautiful fish

When designing your pond keep in mind that you should not use any insecticides or herbicides near the water. Even a small amount of common garden poison can kill your beautiful fish.

Get proper equipment for your pond

Several accessories are nessesary for good health of your fish. Ideally you will have to invest intoa water pump, filtration system, water aeratorand an ultraviolet sterilizer. If the water in your pond is not moving, your koi might feel unwell. Koi pond filtration systems cost a lot, so if money is an issueyou can make your own homemade filters.

Discus Fish question by : Do DISCUS fish survive better in pairs?
I have one young discus fish – I am a novice. All the conditions are right in the tank and he seems happy enough.

Discus Fish best answer:

Answer by Mickey P.
If the conditions are right he will be just fine, he will be a little more skittish though yes. That also kinda depends on where hes located in your house and what kinda cover hes got to hide in. You also won’t see the natural Behavior’s as much because in the wild they live in groups.
But It won’t hurt him to be alone, and as Discuss are Cichlids, its a rule to keep them as singles or groups of 5 or more. 2-3 fish tend to fight more then if you had 4 + and one alone won’t fight with anyone lol. I would say your good unless you want to add more fish, then in that case add 3 more at least and add them asap so the established fish doesn’t come to think of the whole tank as his own space. Best of Luck

Edit: O ya and one more thing, with Discuss the key to keeping them healthy is water quality, water quality and water quality. Also a healthy balanced Diet of High Quality Cichlid pellets, Blood Worms and Brine shrimp. Never feed him just one food all the time. Feed him Cichlid pellets every morning followed by either blood worms or brine shrimp at night. Switch off between the two every other day. 25% weekly water changes as well are a must along with good aeration for that 84 degree water you have him in. Stick in a few Bubblers if you don’t already have them.

Native from the Amazon and effectively bred across the world in aquariums, discus fish aren’t as fragile or delicate as you might think. Nevertheless, all breeders need to be conscious of all the dangers of discus disease, as they’re frequently subject to numerous health issues due to improper care and environment. Breeders the are most cause of discus illnesses, this does not imply we’re pointing the finger, this is just a reality. Improper treatment, bad or inadequate tank conditions, co-inhabitant’s with inappropriate breeds are generally the factor for a discus fish disease.

Probably the most typical discus disease would be the ones that most freshwater fish are prone to having. For example the ammonia poisoning is a discus fish illness that is due to an improper nitrogen cycle inside your aquarium. Do not add tropical fish till the ammonia is removed from the water, perhaps filters do not perform correctly?. To be able to avoid this particular disease, replace the water frequently and steer clear of over-crowding the tank. The signs and symptoms of this disease consist of red and swollen gills and also the fish remaining in the water are at the surface gasping for air.

An additional discus disease that comes from bad water quality will be the Itch or better known as white spot characterised through the little white spots around the physique and fins of the fish. The very best method to battle this is by increasing the temperature in the tank and administrating medicine. Prior to adding the medicine for this kind of discus fish disease, remove the carbon filter as this might soak up all of the helpful medication. If you want other species of fish in the tank, make certain you set up a quarantine aquarium enabling you to stop any disease entering the tank.

In the event the water temperature isn’t suitable you will expose your fish to an additional disease like oxygen starvation. A greater water temperature also demands an elevated degree of oxygen within the water. Consequently, you are able to effortlessly fix this by simple aeration of the water, speeding up the flow through the filters. You might wish to turn off the tank light from time to time, as this also leads to temperature to rising and thus exposes the fish to less oxygen. All in all, maintain the correct temperature for your discus fish, which is 31 degrees Celsius at the absolute maximum.

It sounds like you need to do a little research through some good discus sites because you’re asking WAY too many questions. (If you’ve done proper research, you won’t need to ask such basic questions)

Do research first, and if you have a question that remains unanswered, THEN you ask a question. With any species of fish, you’ll want to do AS MUCH research as possible. The more you know, the less likely you’ll have trouble later.

Here are some good sites you’ll want to read through:
