NO! Bettas are not compatible with gouramis. They are both aggressive fish and will not get along. I would choose the gouramis, as you can have several of them (dwarfs) in your tank since it is so large. You can’t have male bettas living together, but females can live together sometimes. The tetras should get along with both the gouramis and the bettas.
Oh, and I would like to add, the best tankmate for a betta seems to be the dwarf african frog! if you already have a betta, i would put a frog with it.

My Betta fish goes up to the surface every 10 to 30 seconds to breathe. Is this normal?

it can be — there isn’t a set rule. sometimes they will just sit and breathe without moving from the top too. other times they will rest at the bottom and not breathe at all.

Betta Fish Is The Perfect Pet Fish

I still remember the first time I saw two beautiful looking fish in a friend’s house. One fish was blue and the other was red, and they were swimming majestically in their fishbowls. That was my first encounter with a fish species known as Betta fish or Betta Splendens or Siamese Fighting Fish (three names that refer to one fish).

Up until today, I’m still keeping a few of them in my house, and they make perfect pet fish for my family. Every member of my family loves them.

Why do I like most about Betta fish, you may ask. Definitely, I have many different reasons, but here are three of them.

1. Betta fish are beautiful pet.

It’s a tropical fish that comes with different colors such as red, blue and yellow. Some Betta fish have more than one color on their bodies. Believe it or not! I can spend hours looking at how Betta fish move in their bowls but even if you don’t know a thing about Betta fish, you will be mesmerized by their colors alone.

2. Betta fish are easy to care.

Betta fish are hardy type of fish and they can live in a small container. A small fishbowl is enough to house one Betta fish, but be aware that two male Betta fish shouldn’t be placed in one container. Or else, these two Betta fish might fight until death (that’s why they are also called Siamese fighting fish).

3. Betta fish are responsive.

If you have a Betta fish in a small fishbowl and you move closer to the fish, you’ll see that your fish will turn its head to look at you. That’s what makes me fall in love with Betta fish. They are responsive to your presence and aware that you are there, unlike many other pet fish.

So, you can now consider if you want to adopt Betta fish as your family pet or for your kids. They are lovable creatures and you will know it immediately one you have a Betta in your house.

i know that some betta’s are hard to look after….How often did you feed them?

I don’t really know more about betta’s. i have had 4 myself… and only one lived for about 2.5 years. 2 got killed by my cat and i still have the 4th one.

i just feed them, play with them a bit and just leave them be. that’s all i’ve ever done…. oh…and change their water once in a while.

maybe try another betta see if you have better luck?

Never deal with stores that have unimaginable priceshigh or low. There might be something fishy, pun intended, going on. Stick to the ones that offer standard rates. It might be tempting to buy very cheap cichlids but there might be a lot of risks. The fishes might not be healthy and would die after a few days.

They will not fight when they are very tiny, but as they get bigger, some species of cichlid juveniles will fight with each other.

The standard first food for most cichlid babies is newly-hatched brine shrimp. Most will also eat regular fish food if has first been ground up into a fine powder.

If you state what species of cichlid you have, you will get more accurate answers about their behavior and diet. There are about 2,000 different species of cichlids, and while they have many similarities, they also have many differences.

Its so amazing how much you can learn from a young child. Children are filled with honesty and see the world in much depth. As parents, we should see our children as gifts from God. We should cherish the time we spend in guiding and nurturing them. Our children are the leaders of our future.

I want to share a story that will touch the heart and souls of many. This is a story of my dear daughter, Autumn. Autumn has the gift of seeing the divine truth from within. Her eyes are so beautiful and intense. Every since she was baby her eyes has revealed that shes a wise soul. Autumn was sent her by God to touch many lives and teach spiritual lessons to others.One night we had a very enlightening conversation. We were both talking about her pet betta fish. Last year I bought Autumn a betta fish for her birthday and she named him Brandon. Autumn was curious about her betta fish. Out of the blue Autumn mentioned that Brandon looked lonely in his fish bowl.Mommy, Brandon looks so lonely. He is all by himself in his fish bowl. Can we get him another fish to put in his fish bowl so that he would not be lonely? Well dear, Brandon is a male betta fish and male betta fish has to swim alone in the bowl. If you put another male betta fish in the bowl them they will fight and kill each other.Oh, Mama, that is horrible! Brandon is bad fish. No, Autumn, thats part of nature. Brandon is not a bad fish; its a part of his instincts. Hes good to you. Every time you come into the room, he comes to the front of the fish bowl to greet you doesnt he?Yes he does Mama. Autumn looked at Brandon through his fish bowl. Suddenly Autumn thought of another idea for her pet fish.Well Mama, since Brandon cant live in the same bowl with a boy betta fish then maybe we can get a girl betta fish and they can have a baby betta fish. I smiled at Autumn and was intrigued with her interest in her pet betta fish and keeping him happy.Sweetie, Brandon cant have a girl betta fish in the bowl with him because if she is not ready to reproduce the male betta fish may fight her too and attack the babies too. You see dear the male betta fish lives a solitary life; they like to live alone similar to other animals like male bears and tigers. Oh, I see Mom. Autumn sat for a moment in deep thought. She looked at her mom and made a revelation.Well Mom, the betta fish is just like Daddy. Daddy likes to fight and yell at you and me. He never wanted us around just like Brandon. That is why you left Daddy so he cant hurt us no more and will not fight us no more. Is that right mama?

My mouth flew open in disbelief that a child at such a young age could understand so much and be so wise. No matter how hard I tried to protect my child to not see what was happening to me with the arguing and fighting that was going on between her father and I, she still knew.

Yes, Dear you are right. I hugged Autumn in my arms. I shed tears of joy to know that I made the best decision in leaving an abusive relationship.Autumn was my inspiration to leaving an abusive marriage. I stayed as long as I did to try t keep the family together but deep down inside I was hurting; I was in pain. Autumn would ask me many times why do you stay with dad when he treats you so mean? I one day had the courage to leave and remove my children out of the negative environment.

The Betta Fish Story is a spiritual lesson that I have learned from my six year old daughter. She is my motivator and she has taught me a valuable lesson. Yes, parents can learn from their children. Sometimes we must open our hearts to our minds to the spiritual lesson and truths in stories that are taught from our children.

Sometimes in order to make things better for your children you have to be willing to walk out on faith and follow in Gods light. I hope that this story touches other people’s hearts and I want to thank my beautiful daughter, Autumn, for revealing Gods truth through the betta fish story.

Betta Fish question by Kasey: What other kinds of fish can live in a betta tank?
I have a small betta fishtank, and my betta, Brucey, recently died.
I don’t think I’m ready for another betta, due to the fact that they look identical other than colouring, but I do want another fish. Just a totally different one. I have a tank light, and Brucey was quite happy and alive until my dad let my cat into my room unsupervised, and she killed him.
My cat is never allowed in my room without me in here, I always shut my door when I leave, but my dad can be a moron sometimes, as I’ve realized, so I’m going to be extra careful this time around.
So what other kinds of fish could live in my betta fish tank, if any?

Actually it depends on how big the tank is. If it is one of those small bowls you might want to try asking someone at a pet shop to see what other fish can survive in the size of tank you have. If you don’t want another betta you might be able to get a smaller fish. But again it really depends on the size of the tank.

I taught my pet fish, SweetPea, how to jump for food. He jumps pretty high considering I only did this 3 times in 10 minutes. My other fish, Kaleb, hasnt learned yet. But I’m still trying!
