Tropical fish question by Caveman’s daughter: Tropical fish – How many hours a day does the air pump need to be on?
I recently bought a tropical fish tank which is much larger than the one I already had, and it came with an air pump. I have been turning the pump off at night. Since having the new tank, I seem to be losing lots of fish. I have tested the water and it is fine so I was wondering what else could be causing my fish to die?

Freshwater Tropical Fish Medication: Keep Your Fish Healthy

Article by Eddie Lamb

Freshwater tropical fish aren’t your typical fish. They are much more difficult to care for than your everyday freshwater fish. That’s because they are used to a certain tropical environment. They need just the right type of water, the right temperature and, to keep them healthy, they need the right freshwater tropical fish medication. Ask your local pet store or aquarium store what type of freshwater tropical fish medication is right for your fish.

Freshwater tropical fish, or any tropical fish for that matter, can be very expensive and you don’t want to fill up your tank just to have them start dying off on you. For this reason, it’s very important that you protect your pets with the right freshwater tropical fish medication.

When you want to start a fish tank, you should first decide what type of fish you want to fill your tank with. Regular fish tanks with regular fish, such as goldfish, are easy to create and easy to maintain. However, if you decide to fill your fish tank with freshwater tropical fish, you need to do a little more maintenance work. The PH balance of the water needs to be just right, the temperature needs to be just right and that’s not all. The point is that it’s much more difficult to keep your fish alive in a freshwater tropical fish tank. Especially if your fish get sick. Then, you’ll need to get some freshwater tropical fish medication.

There’s nothing worse than starting a fish tank only to have your beautiful fish start dying on you. Often times, when this happens, you don’t know why. You can call your local fish store, but they often won’t know unless they know specifics, such as the temperature of your water, the PH balance, and more. By keeping some freshwater tropical fish medication on hand just in case anything does go wrong, you can often save your fish before they all die.

Recreate Their Natural Environment

The trick to maintaining a freshwater tropical fish tank is to recreate their natural environment. Ask your local pet store, fish store or even veterinarian about what kind of freshwater tropical fish medication you need for your fish.

Tropical fish are not only beautiful to look at, they’re an expensive investment. Protect your investment and your new pets by using freshwater tropical fish medication on your fish. You’ll be glad you did because you can keep your fish tank looking great for a long, long time.

Tropical fish question by ihcuids: What are some easy tropical fish to use in a new 10 gallon aquarium?
I have a 10 gallon tank and would like to start a tropical fish tank, but I’ve only had goldfish before this. I know I have to let the tank go through a two week cycle before I put fish in it to build up the good bacteria and such, but I was wondering if there were some easy, but pretty and nice to keep, tropical fish to start out with.

There are some nice swordtails and platys you could start with. They come in a variety of colors and finnage. The breed easily though. Cardinal tetras also look amazing in a group, but I wouldn’t add those until your tank is stable for some time (about 6 months). Threadfin rainbows also looks nice in a group, but I would wait on those as well.

You best bet for a new tank would be a small group of danios. They are hardy and usually survive the cycle. Then once your tank is stable look for soem other fish to add like tetras.

The cycle won’t really complete until you have added fish to produce ammonia that the bacteria eats. So when you add fish add no more than 2 and test you water for a few weeks until the ammonia and nitrites peak and then go back to 0. Then add more fish slowly.
