  1. only females can be kept together

males will fight and kill each other
and a male and a female will fight each other

allow 3 gallons filtered and heated per fish

i am interested in how you could fit a heater into a bowl can you please elaborate on this

and bowls are not suitable for fish

they are also known as Siamese fighting fish

the amount of fish a tank can hold should never be calculated by looks.

  2. Well, it depends on what size it is. but a regular fish bowl, id say about 2. At least give each betta fish 3-5 pellets a day. But, i wouldnt suggest putting two bettas in one bowl, because they probably will fight, unless you care for them properly.

  3. Bettas can not be put in the same tank unless you by dividers. The only bettas that can be put together are female bettas. The reason being they will fight and kill eachother.

  4. 1. Beta fish can survive in small bowls, but it’s more humane to put them in larger tanks. If not, I suppose it’s ‘okay’ by the pet store standards, but I’m sure they don’t like it.

    2. Don’t add another fish. They’re called ‘Siamese fighting fish’. You can guess why. I have a friend who put two in a paper cup and they fought each other until they had no fins. (I didn’t see her do this, otherwise I would have stopped her). And don’t put a boy and a girl together, because they will fight as well. You just might also end up with a whole bunch more.

    3. If you’re feeding pellets, do about four to six pellets a day (split feeding into two different times). Their stomachs are only as big as their eyeballs.

  5. well they will kill each other so putting 2 is stupid so how bout buying another bowl and putting it separately

  6. Do you mean before or after they tear each other to pieces? They’re called ‘Siamese fighting fish’ for a reason; they’re very territorial and aggressive. Anything except a female betta is going to be attacked.

  7. betta fish are supposed to be kept apart. I hear that female bettas can stay together but this has not proven true with experience. better choose a different kind of fish.

  8. Don’t matter how many you get, there will only be one. They will kill each other.

  9. Betta fish are Japanese fighting fish. They fight to live. its their instinct to fight. SO its not smart to put two Betta’s in with each other. THEY WILL KILL EACH OTHER! I wouldn’t do that. :-)

  10. males will fight, and kill each other.

The average “goldfish bowl” is not even really large enough for a happy betta to tell the truth. It should be 1 gal per inch of fish. So Bettas average 2-5inch’s. So I’d go with at least a 2.5 gal tank. They also do better with filtered water. Yes, they can live in an average bowl, but you will have a happier, healthier fish in a larger, filtered tank.

If you have a larger (like 5gal) tank you can get a tank splitter and keep bettas, or other fish, in separate halves. I did this with a betta and a few guppies and all were happy, healthy and lively. My Bette never got depressed like they tend to as he was showing off to the guppies.

As far as feeding they should only get as much as they can eat it less then a minute. The little betta pebbles are better for them, and make sure it is a food specifically for bettas, it does make a difference. An average betta will eat two or three of the pebbles.

Off Question Tip: If your male, betta seems down try putting him next to another betta, or set a mirror next to him for a while everyday. He will begin Displaying and getting all excited, it should raise his spirits.

  11. no more bettas for you! a bowl is kinda small for just 1 betta! no more bettas…and feed him 2 pellets in the morning and 2 at night and maybe 1 during the day…and maybe once a month get frozen brine shrimp for a treat! they love that stuff! hoped i heped!

  12. Only females can be kept together, but if you have a male you could add some tetras, I personally think Neon’s are cool. You must have at least 5 tetras, so if your bowl is too small for 5, I would get a Platy fish or a bottom feeder, such as a clown loach or small bristlenose.
    Enjoy!

  13. Note that female are aggressive towards other female bettas, and occasion even males. One of my females was known to beat up males, and bullied a 4 inch sailfin molly in my main tank. In general you need at least 20 gallons and 5 females to have a stable female tank. (At min you need 3 females to make a pecking order.) Even with a large tank the girls are prone to all out cage matches if one of the betta dies/leaves, they see a male, you add a betta, they have a bad day…. I’ve always been unlucky to get 2 evenly match females at the top of the pecking who won’t stop fighting. In theory getting a set of sisters young, and raising them together is best.

Males are generally very aggressive towards other betta, and some are aggressive towards all fish. (Generally once a tank get 10+ gallons there is enough room for one male in a tank.) If you have a really large tank like 50+ you might be able to have a male and a few females. The problem with males is that they vary greatly in temperament. At least one of my males wasn’t interested in the females at all, and might have been fine in my girl’s tank if the dominate female didn’t keep beating him up.
