T-Man asked: About a few months ago, I recieved some fish. Im not sure what type they are. Two of them have scales everywhere, but have whiskers like koi fish, they are black and white. They do not have a pattern like typical koi fish. I think they are koi fish but I am unsure. The 3rd fish I recieved I know for sure is a koi fish, but I dont know what kind, it has the scale on top only, and it is white with black dots like a dalmation dog. All 3 fish are syblings, my cousin had like 40 Fish so he decided to give them away. I originally had a 10 gallon tank with gold fish, but then added the 3 new fish because it was unexpected. I then bought a 20 gallon tank kit (rushly bought), and then transfered the “koi” fish. I put the filter from my 10 gallon tank onto the 20 gallon tank and replaced the 10 gallon fish filter. The Original Filter Iwas using was ment for a 50 gallon tank. So now my 20 Gallon Tank is being filtered by a 50 gallon tank filter (it has a fully developed bio wheel). But for the past few months, the “koi” fish are scared of people. If i walk by, the fish freaks out and starts swimming fast all around the tank (on the bottom). They hardly go up except for food. But when I put food in there, it takes about 20 minutes for them to notice. When they do actually eat it, the hesitate, go up, eat 1, and immediate dive back down making a big splash. All 3 of them do this. Is this normal? I was at the fish store the other day and I saw the koi pond. They were literally sticking their head out of the water when i walked by. They look pretty similiar except the color pattern.
If you did not catch my questions it is:
What are my two mysterious fish? They have the whiskers of the koi, but scales all around.
All 3 of them are scared of people, I had them for a few months, is this normal?
They eat about 1-3 pellets everytime they go up for food and dive back down, is that normal?
I’ve been feeding all my “koi” Premium Koi food. My cousin gave me some sinking food before, when I put it in, they usually eat it like no tomorrow. They eat a lot of the food sinks. I did not buy the sinking type of food because for one thing, I had no idea what it was made of. I feed my Goldfish Premium gold fish pellets. Its mostly shrimp, no corn.
If you were wondering, yes the water temperature is correct, along with PH level and the water quality is crystal clear. I doubled the Active Carbon inside the filter. I heard over filteration makes ur fish last longer
Their 8 Inches Long.
