KOI in MY TANK QUESTIONS?

TJ asked:

I have a bunch of question about 2 koi’s that i got 3 days ago from the local petco. I have them in a 10 gallon tank and has a real plant and couple of fake plants in it.
1) i was told to get these pond fish food for the koi’s and since the fishes are small how much(# of pellets or w/e u call it) and how many times during they day should i feed them. I read all kinds of things on the internet and they all say different stuff…what should i do?
2) I read somewhere they feed off the real plant thats in it..how is that?

hopefully these will be answered. Thankyou

What Is the Best Koi Pond Kit and Why?

solsticemagic asked:

Everyone has been super helpful with their answers to my last question so I thought I would take another stab. I was wondering if there was a particular brand of Koi Pond kit that anyone would recommend and why. I have seen many on the internet but I don’t know which one would be the best to buy to keep my future Koi babys healthy and happy.

Thanks in advance for the recommendations!!!

Fish Questions, Needing Answers?

T-Man asked:

About a few months ago, I recieved some fish. Im not sure what type they are. Two of them have scales everywhere, but have whiskers like koi fish, they are black and white. They do not have a pattern like typical koi fish. I think they are koi fish but I am unsure. The 3rd fish I recieved I know for sure is a koi fish, but I dont know what kind, it has the scale on top only, and it is white with black dots like a dalmation dog. All 3 fish are syblings, my cousin had like 40 Fish so he decided to give them away. I originally had a 10 gallon tank with gold fish, but then added the 3 new fish because it was unexpected. I then bought a 20 gallon tank kit (rushly bought), and then transfered the “koi” fish. I put the filter from my 10 gallon tank onto the 20 gallon tank and replaced the 10 gallon fish filter. The Original Filter Iwas using was ment for a 50 gallon tank. So now my 20 Gallon Tank is being filtered by a 50 gallon tank filter (it has a fully developed bio wheel). But for the past few months, the “koi” fish are scared of people. If i walk by, the fish freaks out and starts swimming fast all around the tank (on the bottom). They hardly go up except for food. But when I put food in there, it takes about 20 minutes for them to notice. When they do actually eat it, the hesitate, go up, eat 1, and immediate dive back down making a big splash. All 3 of them do this. Is this normal? I was at the fish store the other day and I saw the koi pond. They were literally sticking their head out of the water when i walked by. They look pretty similiar except the color pattern.

If you did not catch my questions it is:
What are my two mysterious fish? They have the whiskers of the koi, but scales all around.
All 3 of them are scared of people, I had them for a few months, is this normal?
They eat about 1-3 pellets everytime they go up for food and dive back down, is that normal?
I’ve been feeding all my “koi” Premium Koi food. My cousin gave me some sinking food before, when I put it in, they usually eat it like no tomorrow. They eat a lot of the food sinks. I did not buy the sinking type of food because for one thing, I had no idea what it was made of. I feed my Goldfish Premium gold fish pellets. Its mostly shrimp, no corn.

If you were wondering, yes the water temperature is correct, along with PH level and the water quality is crystal clear. I doubled the Active Carbon inside the filter. I heard over filteration makes ur fish last longer icon wink Fish Questions, needing answers?

How DO You Care for Koi?

(: asked:

I know absoloutly nothing about koi and i’m quite interested in maybe buying one as they seem wonderful, i was wondering if you could tell me about them and answer a few questions, thanks icon smile How DO You Care For Koi?

- can koi be kept with goldfish
- how much space do they need
- how long do they live
-are they similar to goldfish

thanks!
Thankyou for the answers so far! I think they sound like a fish worth having and i’d love a pet that can live so long! i think i’ll probably have to wait quite a while though until i can build a pond as i can’t see myself fitting a 2,000 gallon aquarium in my living room lol
I know with goldfish it’s wrong to keep them in smallish tanks because their organs will grow but their bodies wont apparently and their growth will be stunted and they will die. Is this the same with koi? If it’s not it would be good to keep a small koi in a tank but i just want to make sure i’m not doing anything that will endanger it’s health, i saw some Ghost Koi at a garden centre today they were lovely
wow thankyou for all the information!! So i could keep a koi in a tank with goldfish for a few years? how many approximately? and in a tank how many gallons should each koi have? I wont be able to build a pond for a very long time, i’m actually 14 at the moment and i’ve been obsessed with fish for along time my parents have already told me there’s no chance of a pond lol but i’m working on them icon wink How DO You Care For Koi? thanks!

How to Take Perfect Care of a 80g Fish Tank, With Koi Fishes and an Arowana?

Kevin T asked:

I’m kind of new to taking care of an aquarium. I’ve had a smaller fish tank with gold fishes, but I didn’t add any kind of designs to it. What I really want to do with my 80g fish tank is to design it really nice. I’m making it a freshwater tank with sand at the bottom, rocks, plants, everything.

I’ve done some research, I’ve looked up on yahoo answers, and tried everything but nothing really answered my questions or maybe I’m asking the wrong ones.

Since I want to design my fish tank really life-like, would it be a perfect environment for koi fishes and arowanas? Typical tanks for these fishes are just a plain tank filled with koi fishes and arowanas without ANY plants or rocks. But to me this is to plain, and I really want to design it to the fullest, but would it damage any of the fishes?

Any tips of keeping my fish tank clean would really help, thank you.
Addition:
I’m a big fan on keeping real plants, keeping everything as real as possible, but I’m sure with real plants it would be harder to keep clean. Any advice?
Addition2:
Well I’ve seen Koi fishes in 60 to 80g tanks, and they were pretty big and there were quiet a few of them and they did fine. But I’m not sure how long they will last, because I know they are pond fishes.

I see how I can’t put the fishes together, but I’ve seen it work. People told me that I just have to buy them at the same size and let them grow together. But since I can’t put the 2 fishes together, what do you guys recommend to make my fish tank look… colorful and beautiful with all the rocks and plants?
Addition3:
One more question if I just had an arowana, would it hurt it if I added the decorations such as stacking rocks? Would it stay on the surface or go around the rocks? I also would like to feed it goldfishes icon smile How to take perfect care of a 80g fish tank, with koi fishes and an arowana?
